What screen size is best for your viewing experience?
It depends on your living room dimension and the distance from which you normally view the TV. 32” will just suffice for the bedroom or kitchen. For your living room 32” will be too small. In such cases bigger is better. There is a simple math. You should sit 4 to five times the diagonal of standard definition TV for comfortable viewing. In high definition world, if the video is of high definition you can even sit close to a large panel TV. If you play VHS or standard definition content on a large screen display and sit close you will notice pixilation and blur. The picture looks very patchy.
For HD TV, the recommended distance is 2 times the panel size, if you are playing high definition content. If you sit in a sofa which is 8 feet away from TV, then the distance is 8 x12 = 96”. So your maximum TV size is 96/2 = 48. So you can go for 46” TV for comfortable viewing with maximum clarity.
Another factor to consider is regarding widescreen aspect ratio. When comparing 4:3 aspect ratio with widescreen tv the display area will be higher in 4:3 ratio TV for the same diagonal size.
Conventional 32” TV has the dimensions as 25.6” x 19.2”. So the viewing area = 491.5 sq inches.
Widescreen 32” TV has the dimensions as 28” x 15.7”. So the viewing area = 439.6 sq inches. So when you watch SD(Standard definition) content on widescreen TV, you will see a smaller picture when compared to the same sized standard definition TV. So consider this fact also before making the decision on screen size.
