Why refresh rates is a main factor in determining picture quality in HD TV world?
Refresh rate is the number of times the display image is painted on the display screen each second. It is expressed in hertz. So for e.g., if the refresh rate is 72hz, it means the image is redrawn 72 times in each second. Some manufacturers call it scan rate, vertical scan rate or vertical refresh rate.
It should not be confused with video frame rate which is entirely different which is dependent on the video system. So remember here after, Frame rate and Refresh rate are different. We will talk about frame rate little later.
When you buy LCD TV, refresh rate is an important factor. Plasma TVs handle fast video much like CRT whereas LCD displays cannot. To overcome this higher refresh rate LCD panels are used in LCD TVs. The standard refresh rate of majority of panels were 60 hz. Now 120 hz panels are becoming normal in most LCD TVs. If you use your display for games and fast action sports events, then it is better to go for higher refresh rates like 240 hz.
